Piet Inspired Selections
Piet Oudolf is a dutch plantsman and one of the most famous garden designers in the world today. His artistic approach of using plants to create a wild, natural garden has led to his prominence. Some of his notable garden designs are the High Line in New York City, Lurie gardens in Chicago and Hummelo his personal garden.
Piet has deep understanding and appreciation for the "personalities" of plant species and their role in the garden throughout the season. He constantly talks of a plant's value, not just in bloom, but as they fade and go to seed. His style includes the aesthetic use of seedheads and "dead" plants to evoke the natural feel of a garden inspired by wild places.
Piet's designs are centered around plant species that visually create the wild, natural feel. He often uses North American native species for this very reason. We have put together a selection of native and non-native species that will help you get started with a Piet "inspired" design.
