A large, deciduous shrub or small understory tree. Produces edible cherries and can be used for jams, jellies, pies, sauces and wines. Birds feed heavily upon the ripe cherries. Showy, white flowers are attractive to butterflies and bees. Drought and pollution tolerant. Prefers dry to medium soil with best flowering in full sun.
