A versatile tree that is widely used for a variety of landscape applications. Found in abundance from coast to coast in the boreal forest region of Canada. Extremely cold hardy and can withstand harsh winters with ease. Pyramidal form with a dense branching pattern where the lowest branches sweep out horizontally at ground level. Successful in a broad range of soil conditions while it prefers moist, well-drained soil in full sun. Being a coniferous tree it that provides winter interest and is effectively used in windbreaks and screens. Needles are a blue-green coloration and are aromatic when crushed.
