Product Details
A charming native evergreen groundcover ideal for shaded woodland gardens. This low-growing plant reaches only 1–2 inches in height and spreads slowly to form dense, mat-like colonies through rooting stems. Its small, glossy, dark green leaves are arranged in opposite pairs along creeping stems, providing year-round visual interest. In late spring to early summer, partridgeberry produces fragrant, tubular white flowers in pairs; these unique blooms fuse at the base and yield a single bright red berry that persists through winter, offering a splash of color during the colder months. The berries are edible, though rather bland, and serve as a food source for birds and small mammals. Partridgeberry thrives in partial to full shade and prefers moist, acidic, well-drained soils rich in organic matter. Its tolerance for dry conditions once established, along with its deer resistance and low maintenance needs, make it an excellent choice for groundcover in shaded areas, under shrubs, or along woodland edges.
