A low-growing, evergreen shrub. This native species spreads out to form a "creeping" mat and is an effective alternative to traditional groundcovers. Has a preference for sandy or rocky, well-drained soil. Birds will snack on the dark-colored cones that have the appearance of small blueberries. Tolerant of hot, dry garden locations.
