Black walnut is a large tree with rounded low-branching and an open crown. Known to be a very strong and sturdy tree. Esteemed for its highly-valued lumber for furniture and woodworking. Begins to bear fruit (walnuts) at the age of 12-15 years. Develops a deep taproot and is difficult to transplant. Prefers full sun with rich, moist soil conditions.
Please note : Emits toxins, called juglones, into the soil through its root system. This can be toxic to certain plant species.
