Desmodium canadense - Showy Tick-trefoil
Tall stalks are adorned purple-pinkish, pea-like flowers. A deep taproot makes this plant very drought tolerant. A nitrogen fixing species that improves the soil for surrounding plants.
Please note, that the seeds are naturally spread by sticking to passing mammals (similar to the grouping of plants known as hitchhikers). Although, this is a very effective strategy for the perennial, this may lead to complications for the gardener who in plants it nearby a frequently used pathway or owns pets with fur.
