A spring woodland flower that begins blooming in May. Prefers shady environments with rich, loamy soil, characteristic of a mature broadleaf forest. Garners it's name because the flower resembles a preacher standing in a pulpit. The sheath-like leaf overhangs the flower spike to keep the pollen from washing away in the spring precipitation.
