Prairie Rose

Rosa setigera

A great vine/shrub to form thickets along edges and fence-lines. Stems are filled with prickles. Attracts pollinators. Rose hips provide a food source for small mammals and birds.

Height : 6-12 feet

Spread : 8-10 feet

Light : Full sun to part shade

Water : Medium to wet

Soil : Sand, loam, clay

Zone : 5-9

Leaves : Long pointed leaves in leaflet groupings. Medium green with serrated margins

Stem : Prickly woody stems that are stout and slightly curved

Flower : Fragrant pink flowers appear in early-mid summer for a month

Fruit : Late summer bright red rose hips will appear

Habit : Vine that has arching branches which spreads by branching outward and suckering to form thickets
