Pasture Rose

Rosa carolina

A somewhat prickly shrub that has upright form but spreads out well. Beautiful pink flower gives way to rose hips that provide food for wildlife. Does well in numerous growing conditions but prefers average moisture in well-drained soil. Attracts pollinators.

Height : 1-6 feet

Spread : 3-8 feet

Light : Full sun to part shade

Water : Medium to wet

Soil : Sand, loam

Zone : 4-8

Leaves : Medium-dark green coloration with 5-7 per leaflet

Stem : New growth starts green and eventually turns brown. Older stems are brown with prickles

Flower : A five-petal flower with wavy edges. Light pink to dark pink rose coloration with showy yellow stamens. Early summer and lasts about a month

Fruit : Shiny, bright red berry (hips) following flower blooming period

Habit : Low, upright shrub with spreading habit and a rounded crown form
